Comprehensive School Counseling

"Comprehensive school counseling programs, driven by student data and based on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model:

  • ensure equitable access to a rigorous education for all students

  • identify the knowledge and skills all students will acquire as a result of the K–12 comprehensive school counseling program 

  • are delivered to all students in a systematic fashion

  • are based on data-driven decision making

  • are provided by a state-credentialed school counselor"

School Counselors provide individual counseling, small group counseling, and classroom guidance lessons in the three domains listed below. Additional information about the School Counselors role can be found HERE.

Career Development

School Counselors help all students plan for postsecondary options (higher education, military, work force) by creating connections between school and the world of work

Academic Development

School Counselors help all students apply academic achievement strategies, such as:

organization, time management, goal setting, etc.

Social & Emotional Development

School Counselors help all students manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills, such as:

conflict resolution, coping skills, anger management, relationship building, etc.

Delivery of Services

The comprehensive school counseling program is delivered to all Wacousta students in the areas of academic, career, and social/emotional development through the use of short-term individual counseling, small group counseling, and large classroom counseling lessons.
